Welcome to my website!

My name is Theres Matthieß and I am an Assistant Professor of Empirical Democracy Research at the University of Trier and board member of the Trier Institute for Research on Parties and Democracy (TIDuP). I previously held positions as a post-doc fellow at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) and as a research fellow at the DFG funded research project “Manifesto Research on Political Representation” (MARPOR) at the WZB, and received my PhD from the Humboldt-University of Berlin.

My research interests include Comparative Politics, Political Parties, Voting, Political Representation and Democratic Legitimacy. I rely upon a variety of methodological approaches, such as text analysis, survey, and experimental research. My work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, edited volumes and various (media) formats. I am also the scientific supervisor of various studies on the fulfillment of election and coalition pledges in Germany in cooperation with the Bertelsman Foundation.
